Interesting museum about the history of Borgvik and the iron works that once was the backbone of the village.
Welcome to the Borgvik folk museum!
Borgvik has one of Värmland’s best-preserved industrial settings. The Iron works opened in 1600 and finally closed in 1925. The company Borgviks Bruk AB wasn't just the iron works but it also included a large farming property with a large herd of cows and huge grain production. The local folklore society’s museum is located in the old slag brick house near Borgvikskvarnen. The building was originally a granary that was used for drying the grain produced in the area. From the sawmill on the other side of the river, sawdust and other waste product, was collected and taken to the boiler room in the building next door to the granary. The heat from the boiler was blown in to the granary's cellar giving it the perfect conditions to dry the grain.
In 1983 the granary was rebuilt into the museum where an exhibition about the local forest and forestry was shown. Today, on the 2nd floor, you can experience a permanent exhibition about the process from the forest to producing the finished iron products. On the 1st floor, there are a number of smaller exhibitions that periodically change. Also on the first floor there is the possibility to digitally search for more information on the places and people in Borgvik. You can ask at the reception about this.
